Lotus Letter No. 3 The Thing That Woke Up Letters from the surface, 26 September 2026, written at the full moon in Aries
There is a reason I can write to you from the surface this month, and it has been underground for five years.
My book is finished.
Odes to Trauma: The Journey from Mud to Lotus. Twenty-one essays. It is the whole of it: the men, the losses, the rooms I walked out of, the years my body kept the score and then handed me the bill. And the other half, which is what I found down there: the guides, the angels, the practice, the slow astonishing discovery that none of it was punishment and all of it was material.
I did not write it to be brave. I wrote it because it was already written in me and it was heavy to carry silently. If you have ever been told that you are too much, that you should have moved on by now, that other people have had it worse, this book is for you. And if you have ever sat in the dark wondering whether anything on the other side of it was real, it is especially for you.
It is out on 1 October, and the timing is deliberate. September is a 9 in the numbers: the month of completion, of closing out, of putting down what is finished. October opens a 1. A beginning. I was not going to let this book be born in an ending.
It is out now.

And it arrives on a full moon This letter reaches you on a full moon, which I did not plan and am not surprised by.
The Moon is full in Aries at 3 degrees, with the Sun opposite her in Libra. Aries is the one who says this is mine and I made it. Libra is the one who checks whether everybody is comfortable first. A full moon is the peak, the point in the cycle when something that has been building becomes visible, and this one lights up that exact axis.
Which is a peculiar sort of joke to be handed in the week I put my own name on the front of my own story.
And she is sitting within a degree of Neptune: the mystic, the dreamer, the one who dissolves the edges between worlds. So this is not the loud, combative Aries moon. It is the visionary one. Whatever you have been quietly building in the dark, this is the moon that shows it to you.
If something has been waiting for you to claim it out loud, tonight the sky is holding the door.
Venus turns back There is one more thing the sky is doing, and it belongs in this letter because it is the same shape.
On the eleventh, Venus, the planet of love and worth, moved into Scorpio. On the fourth of October she turns retrograde there, and she will not be right way round again until the middle of November. Venus goes backwards only once every eighteen months or so, and this is her first retrograde through Scorpio in eight years.
A Venus retrograde is a review. It is the planet of love going backwards over ground she has already covered, so that we can look at it properly. Old faces come back. Old questions about what we are worth come up. Things we had dismissed look different, and things we had settled for look different too.
The tradition says one thing very clearly about this period. It is for looking, not deciding. Whatever you think on the first pass will not be what you think on the last. So if someone from your past reappears in the next two months, or if you find yourself circling a question about love that you thought you had answered, do not force it to a conclusion. The answer comes with her when she turns around again in November.
And there is a second half to it. At the beginning of November she backs all the way out of Scorpio and into Libra, her own sign, the sign of partnership and balance and what is fair, and it is there, at 22 degrees, that she turns around on the fifteenth. So the back half of this review happens on Libra's ground. The question quietly changes from what you desire to what you deserve.
Be gentle with what you are worth. That is what she is actually asking about.
The equinox was on the twenty-third. That was the day the light overtook the dark for the first time since March. Spring stopped being a promise and became the season.
You did not lose the winter. You were being remade in it. And the thing that is standing up now, green and small and stubborn, was inside you the whole time.
We get to play with energy while we are here. That is the whole gift.
From the surface, with love, Sarah
P.S. My books have opened up again for the spring, and the women who have come through this month have been extraordinary. If this letter found something in you, or you know someone who needs a hand held, please forward it on. I do not advertise. Word of mouth is how the right people find me, and it has never once been wrong.
